Several factors combined to make me if not the worst uncle, then possibly in the lower half of the uncle league table:
1) a long and deeply held belief that there is no way any four year old, even a doubtlessly gifted one can keep track of so many toys.
2) I was desperate to get my post-apocalypse terrain collection for Across the Dead Earth started, particularly in light of our ongoing campaign.
3) a naive belief that creating a wrecked car would be a 10 minute job - the easiest possible way to make up for my Mars Attacks scenery avoidance.
4) some eBay scumbags kept guzumping me when I was trying to get old toy cars on the cheap.
5) festive expenses (and a rash investment in a KoW kickstarter) made me reluctant to pay for a new toy car.
Anyhoo. If my niece hasn't noticed the missing car in a week it is a victimless crime, right? Guiltily pleased with the results anyway.
